Welcome from the scouts and parents of Boy Scout Troop 324 in Overland Park, KS.
Our troop meets at Christ Lutheran Church, located at 11720 Nieman Rd, Overland Park, Kansas (get a map or directions). We’ve tried to include a complete overview of important troop information on this page, but if you need more information, try reading the FAQ page, or please contact our Scoutmaster Kent Bredehoeft, or our Troop Committee Chair.
Troop 324 was first chartered by Christ Lutheran School in 1992. Read more on our History page.
Scouting teaches boys to become men of moral character while having fun outdoors at the same time. Troop 324 follows the general mission of Boy Scouting. Like any organization, we do have our own personality, and we like to feel that our personality makes us a great group.
We believe that all boys should:
- get a chance to grow in life
- learn scout skills and life skills
- have fun
- make friends, and
- feel good about themselves.
Troop 324 is a camping troop, and each boy should expect to participate and contribute to the group experience. Our boys feel good about their accomplishments both individually and as a troop.
In Troop 324, an exceptionally high number of our Tenderfoot Scouts achieve Eagle Rank.
Troop meetings are held each Monday night at 7:00 pm from mid-August through May (when school is in session). Troop meetings are planned and conducted by scouts and usually last about an hour. There is NOT a scout meeting the Monday following a campout.
Our parent committee meeting is held one Monday each month – normally the second Monday after a campout weekend from 7:00-8:00 (same time as the scouts meeting in an adjacent room).
The next 4 meetings are scheduled as follows: Oct. 24, 2016, Nov. 21, 2016, Dec. 12, 2016, Jan. 30, 2017
The troop strives to be scout-run and scout-led. The Patrol Leaders Council is responsible for planning and executing troop meetings and programs with support from adult leadership. The troop is fortunate to have very strong adult involvement. The troop has an adult leader training program and benefits from several Woodbadge-trained adults who are active in troop leadership.
The troop camps one weekend per month during the school year and attends summer camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation near Osceola, Missouri each summer. Read all about our campouts on the Troop 324 Campouts blog, or more about Bartle on the 2017 Bartle page.
High Adventure Program:
Scouts from Troop 324 have participated in high-adventure programs at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Northern Tier Canoe Base in Minnesota, Florida Sea Base, and Packard High-Adventure Base (Rocky Mountain High-Adventure Base) in Colorado. The troop makes every effort to provide one high adventure experience each year for eligible scouts. Read more about the planned 2017 Philmont Trip on the Philmont 2017 page.
Scouts of Troop 324 participate in two honor camping programs: The Order of the Arrow through Tamegonit Lodge at Camp Naish, and The Tribe of Mic-O-Say at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. Read more on the Honor Societies page.
We are honored to have more than 90 Eagle Scouts among our active scouts and alumni. See the Troop 324 Eagle Honor Roll.
Troop 324 is a member of the Red-Tailed Hawk District, Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Thanks for visiting.
